"SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It is the process of getting traffic from the “free”, “organic”, “editorial” or “natural” search results on search engines. All major search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo have primary search results, where web pages and other content such as videos or local listings are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers most relevant to users."

Bla bla bla, long story short, if you have a good/highly optimized SEO, your blog will show up on the first page of the search result when someone searches for something that relates to your blog which will lead you to getting more traffic. Exciting right? Now the question is, what are the basics to optimize your blog?

  • Blog Post Title - avoid having long titles, a good title has less than 70 characters (including spaces) only.
  • Content - strategically put and repeat keywords. Do not put keywords too close to each other.
  • Photos - there are 2 ways to optimize your photos; 1. Change the file name. For example, ditch the "DS10923.jpg" and into something like "blogging_101_seo_optimization.jpg". 2. Add an alt text into your image. This only works in manual HTML coding so go to the HTML tab and when your see the <img.....> thing, add "alt = "blogging 101: seo optimization" inside the "< img>" attribute.
  • Make your blog responsive to mobile view - because it will create another set of SEO points for your blog.

Doing SEO optimization requires an extra effort and can be tiring but at the end of the day, it's always worth it.
